Programs that provide support for people who want to enter and/or reside in Canada. Included are programs operating under the auspices of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada that govern the process and conditions under which various categories of foreign visitors and immigrants can legally enter and/or reside in Canada; and organizations that provide assistance for people who need legal advice about the immigration process.
Refugee Programs
Programs that administer the application, adjudication and appeals process for refugees who want to enter and/or reside in Canada. Refugee claimants within Canada are entitled to remain in Canada until their case has been heard although, in some circumstances, they may be confined to a detention facility until a decision is reached. Also included are programs that provide legal and other assistance throughout the refugee application process.
Temporary Resident Status Programs
Programs that provide support for people who want to enter and/or reside in Canada on a temporary basis. Included are programs operating under the auspices of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada that determine the requirements and steps involved in the acquisition of visas, including student visa and temporary work permits/visas, and those that provide assistance for people who need legal advice about the visa application process. These programs also address the conditions under which foreign nationals can visit Canada (for example, as tourists or to visit family/friends) and the length of time they can visit.
