Provincial/Territorial Disability Income Assistance Programs
Programs at the provincial/territorial level that provide financial assistance for persons younger than age 65 who have disabilities that prevent them from working at any job on a regular basis. Most programs provide income support as well as vocational assessment, vocational rehabilitation, job training and other types of employment-related support that help people eventually prepare for and obtain suitable jobs. Once eligibility for the program has been established, recipients may be able to draw upon other programs that provide additional benefits, e.g., items such as assistive devices and medical equipment and supplies, or clothing allowances for dependent children.

Canada Pension Plan
A program administered by Human Resources and Social Development Canada that provides monthly cash payments for people age 65 years and older who have contributed to CPP while they were employed. Individuals may retire between the ages 60 and 65 and receive a reduced benefit or may wait until age 65 and receive a full benefit. Benefit amounts depend upon income earned and are designed to replace about 25% of the earnings on which a person's contributions were based.
Social Security Tribunal
Program that is responsible for hearing appeals and resolving complaints that have been filed by people who have applied for or are receiving assistance through Service Canada (including Employment Insurance benefits, Canada Pension Plan disability benefits and other CPP benefits, Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement benefits), and who believe that they have been discriminated against, that their rights have been violated, or that the relevant authority has failed to take appropriate action with respect to their application or benefits. The Social Security Tribunal is the administrative tribunal that is responsible for following the terms and conditions of the Employment Insurance Act, the Canada Pension Plan, and the Old Age Security Act; and for conducting admissibility hearings.
