Description (Service)

An historical home constructed by Charles Sovereign between 1825 and 1846

  • occupied by one of Canada's famous authors, Mazo de la Roche, from 1910-1915
  • saved from demolition by the Bronte Historical Society and the Town of Oakville, in 1988
  • moved from its original location on Shoreline Dr to Bronte Bluffs Park
  • copy of the Sovereign Diaries, which contain detailed insight into the construction of the house, is available on location
  • owned by the Town of Oakville
  • operated as a heritage display centre for local history by the Bronte Historical Society
  • showcases artifacts related to the builder, the lifestyles of the 1800s and Bronte Harbour
  • rotating exhibits and surrounding gardens cultivated in the 1910 style with lakeside walkways
  • Art On The Bluffs, showcase of local artists, hosted in the North Wing of Sovereign House
