Description (Service)

Health, education/mentoring, and employment programs designed to target vulnerable youth and isolated seniors, with some youth programs designed primarily for vulnerable individuals within the Black community

Friendly Visiting for Seniors (ages 55 and older)

  • West of 55 Friends (WO55)
  • program for older adults living alone, feeling isolated from friends and family, or simply looking for someone to talk to
  • volunteers connect through phone, Zoom, or in-person visits, engaging in conversations and activities
  • community social gathering events

Seniors Transportation (ages 55 and older)

  • Seniors-On-The-Go
  • provides free transportation to medical appointments in the Halton-Mississauga area
  • for seniors 55 and older who don't qualify for other transportation programs

Youth Mental Health Programs (ages 8-17)

  • Mindful Friends Youth Network
  • open group workshop sessions connect youth with peers who understand what they're going through, to learn how to handle life's ups and downs, support each other, and build lasting friendships
  • activities focus on mindfulness, communication, and emotional well-being

Youth Mentoring Program (ages 10-19)

  • Guidance, Athletics, Mentoring, Education (GAME)
  • offers team sports, outdoor adventures, and community engagement activities under the mentorship of positive male role models
  • aims to build self-confidence, resilience, friendship, and a strong sense of community among participants
  • sessions promote mental health and physical well-being, social and conflict resolution skills, awareness about hate crimes, and a deeper understanding of community and cultural values
  • program tailored toward young males who may benefit from mentorship of positive male role models

Youth Employment Support (ages 18-30)

  • Job Opportunities for Building Skills (JOBS)
  • connects young job seekers with employers offering apprenticeships or on-the-job training, interview preparation assistance, and peer support for unemployed youth
  • program encourages unemployed Black youth in particular, who are not currently in the education system

Homework Support (ages 10-19)

  • Homework Squad
  • focussed one-on-one or group sessions, mainly online
  • youth up to grade 12

Summer Camp (ages 8-12)

  • Best Educational and Exploration Camping Hub (BEECH)
  • a 5 day summer STEM and adventure camp
