The Brain Injury Association of Peel and Halton (BIAPH) is a non-profit organization that advocates for the needs and provides information and support groups to survivors of Acquired Brain Injuries, their families and support network.

ABI Support Groups: meets every Tuesday evening throughout September to June

These meetings offer:

• ABI survivors and caregivers opportunities to discuss daily experiences and common issues, learn more about living with an ABI, and positively engage with other members and families
• Educational guest speaker presentations from different professions/disciplines relating to ABI

While weekly meetings invite both survivors and caregivers, BIAPH holds monthly meetings that are exclusively for caregivers

Headspin Young Adult Support Group: designed for youth and young adults with an ABI or individuals experiencing similar challenges. These meetings are focuses on building community and friendship through community-based leisure activities and regular meetings

Peer Support Program: available for those who are living with an ABI, and allows them to connect to an individual who has lived through a similar life experience involving an ABI

• mentor's role is to provide guidance, knowledge, and support, based on their own life experience involving an ABI
• while this program is coordinated through local affiliated brain injury associations across Ontario, the BIAPH branch is coordinated by our local peer support coordinator

Caregiver Relief Program:

• provides relief to families and primary caregivers of individuals with acquired brain injuries for a maximum period of 12 consecutive months
• attendant care (personal care, completion of household tasks like laundry or cooking, supervision/support within the home to allow caregiver to leave ensuring safety for loved one) * 4 hours PSW services, once per week
• community social support (assistance accessing community programs or activities, both attending and participating)
• cannot be used for the funding of active therapy or neurorehabilitation interventions such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech language pathology, rehabilitation support worker)
• medical status form is required and must be completed by a health professional who confirms the presence of an acquired brain injury
