Description (Service)

Volunteer-led organization aiming to provide aid and comfort to Canadian veterans
Services include assistance with:

  • accessing benefits the Veteran or family are entitled to and or may not be aware of
  • outreach
  • peer support

Guitars for VETS Canada (GFV Canada):

  • clients are given a donated, gently used guitar or provided with a rental guitar
  • volunteer guitar instructors provide ten lessons
  • lessons are also available online

Homeless veterans count:

  • census of Canadian streets to determine the scope and nature of veterans' homelessnes

Ground Support for Veterans Line

  • Crisis phone line for veterans that is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week

Eligibility
  • Canadian Veterans who are in crisis, at risk of becoming homeless, or are homeless
  • their family members
  • Volunteers: still serving members and Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
  • GFV Canada: veterans living with physical disabilities or mental health concerns such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Referrals from Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), shelters and agencies
  • service number required (VAC can assist in recuperating this number)
  • response time is 24-48 hours
