Description (Service)

Program requires drivers aged 80 years and older, to renew their driver's licence every two 2 years

Steps to renew:

1) receive a renewal application in the mail

2) watch the senior driver education video and review the Official Ministry of Transportation Drivers’ Handbook 

3) book an appointment by calling 1-800-396-4233 to attend a senior driver group education session which includes

  • a vision assessment,
  • a driver record review, and
  • an in-class screening assessment (non-computerized)
  • when you call, you will get the date, time and location of your session

After the education session, you may need to:

  • renew your driver’s licence by paying a $36 renewal fee at ServiceOntario
  • before renewing, you may also be asked to complete one or more of the following:
    • pass a road test
    • follow up with your doctor and submit medical information
    • provide additional vision information from a doctor or optometrist

4) renew your licence online, or if necessary, visit a ServiceOntario centre
