Description (Service)

Preserves and shares Burlington’s past for the enjoyment and education of the community, making history accessible and relevant for today while nurturing interest in future generations

  • co-operates with local authorities and other organizations in ensuring the preservation of documents, relics, buildings, etc. of historical interest or value
  • produces publications and other materials that describe aspects of local history

The Archives are the central repository of Burlington’s historical documents dating back to 1780

  • housed in the Burlington History Room, 2nd floor of Burlington Public Library's Central Branch
  • includes photographs, postcards, maps, census reports, and others
  • many items have been digitized and may be viewed online
  • managed by volunteer archivists
  • accessible to the public when volunteer archivist is present (appointments are recommended) 
  • open to the general public for research and have been instrumental in securing reference material for several publications on local history
