Open air burning is prohibited in urban areas of Burlington and only allowed in rural Burlington with an open-air burn permit

The provincial smoke alarm law requires owners, and landlords of rental properties, to install and maintain smoke alarms on all levels of the home

  • Smoke Alarm Assistance program will assist with installation/checks of alarms for those unable to do so (see below)

Description (Service)

Offers a wide range of public safety programs and services to support the community including fire prevention services, such as public education programs, as well as inspections and enforcement

Programs include:

Fire & Life Safety Education

  • offers customized presentations for local shools, businesses and community organizations
  • to request a presentation or learn more, email firedepartment@burlington.ca

Alarm Assistance Program

  • offered to Burlington homeowners over the age of 65 or residents with a disability that prevents them from maintaining their home's smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
  • designed specifically for people with no support network or agencies available to assist

Burlington Fire Station Tours

  • groups, of up to 25 participants (must be 5 or older), can book a tour to learn about firefighting and fire prevention
  • individual and small group walk-ins are also welcome

Burlington Fire Truck Visits

  • offers important fire and public safety education in a fun way
  • firefighters share their knowledge and expertise and provide an up-close look at firefighting equipment and vehicles
